Grooming your dog is very necessary and should be done in a timely manner.  Grooming should be done depending on the breed of dog. You need to keep clean their long water resistant coats daily. If needed, you may use a dry shampoo to remove any odor.  An animal loves to be rubbed and talked to.  It gives them extreme joy and would cause them to love being around the person more.  Dog’s needs to be bathed regularly and their coat clipped every six to eight weeks.  In grooming you need to know your breed of dog, for example long haired dogs take more grooming than brindle dogs and note some grooming process it requires.

Trimming your dog’s nails is essential and requires extreme care.  So you can either do it yourself or you get a veterinarian to do it, but again you’ll have to be extremely careful.

Below are some tips to help you trim your dog’s nails without a problem:

Ensure you trim his nails every six to ten weeks that’s if your dog is the type that goes outside a lot.  But if your dog is the type that hardly stays outside, you’ll have to clip them every four to six weeks.

However, dogs like Collies and Shetland sheepdog needs to be groomed at a minimum two times per week.  Don’t wait too long because if you do, their hair will be strong and difficult to work with.

Grooming your dog probably should begin when they are puppies as this will help them become use to being touched all over their bodies while they are standing still or lying on their stomach or side.  If you get an older dog you will have to gently and gradually introduce him to grooming except he is already used to being handled and touched all over his body.

Grooming times are great times to bond with your dog and show them the needed attention and affection.  When clipping the nails of your dog, you ought to take it lightly so as not to injure or cause pain for your dog and make him fearful.  Clipping your dog’s nails wrongly would cause him to be afraid and the next time you might try to clip his nails, he may try to nip you or run away from you. If your dog gets frightened of nail clipping, please consider taking them to a veterinarian and letting them deal with that.

Again, when grooming your dog, it’s always advisable to start at the back of the head and then down the spine.  After those parts, get to the sides of the dog.  Also, when drying the rest of your dog, be extremely careful not to irritate your dog’s skin by having the dryer on high heat.  In you should start out on low to be safe.  Make sure you in the process of grooming you rain your dog with lots of praises.

Take heed of the listed above and you will be able to know and calculate how often you will need to groom your dog.
